I’m still not sure the United States is ready for a full fleet of electric cars from our various manufacturers. They have limited range, no recharging infrastructure and so far, cost way to much to be considered economical. Combine that with a sub-200 mile range and one can see the many drawbacks that we are presented with. That hasn’t stopped Tesla though, the maker of the $101,000 all electric roadster. You see they’ve just opened their first overseas dealership in Toyko, Japan, the land where most of our electronic gadgets come from.

suppose it’s time to officially put the 2011 Chevrolet Volt and the 2011 Nissan Leaf on notice as Ford has announced that they will have an all electric, newly redesigned Focus on sale by the end of next year. Over the last 5 years Ford is the only motor company that has, in my opinion fulfilled it’s obligations to the public. They didn’t take any government bailout money, they’ve got the most attractive line-up of any American car manufacturer, and from a performance and quality standpoint, their cars are fantastic. The new 2012 Ford Focus electric is said to have a range of 100 miles, about the same as the new Nissan Leaf. It is also a true electric car, as it has no range extender engine like the Chevrolet Volt.

It’s been said before, but for posterity’s sake, let’s say it one more time: We may very well be watching the shades of darkness closing in on the real Golden Age of automobiles.
In times past, a list such as this would feature almost exclusively cars that are long past classic car status, with a few proven new comers thrown in just to keep things interesting. Because an all time list is more than just a list of the podium finishers in the power, acceleration, and lap time segments. There’s the much more difficult challenge of choosing cars deserving for their significance within their historical context as well as our own. Of recognizing cars that broke the mold in their day and yet have retained their charisma through the ages. Of finding cars that have made a real impact on the layman drivers of the world, set a course for a new design language, introduced a new technology, or revised our concept of what is beautiful.
The fact is, though, is that we have lived among the future titans, and never before have so many relatively new cars been so deserving of a place among the all time greats. Obviously, the task of comparing nostalgia to newness is impossibly subjective. So, here are a few caveats to assuage the would-be naysayers out there about our damn good list:
1. This is a list of the best Sports Cars of all time. Not performance cars. Not the most beautiful cars. Not the best selling or most popular cars. Sports Cars.
2. A Mustang, an M5, and a Mini are not technically defined as Sports Cars. A Sports Car is a performance focused vehicle with two doors and usually two seats, although 2+2 configurations are acceptable beneath the subcategory of luxury-minded vehicles called GT (Gran Touring) cars. Believe me, we wanted desperately to have a Mustang whoop up classic Ferraris on our list, but it just wasn’t feasible, or fair. And if muscle cars can’t do it, neither can your hot hatches and performance saloons.
3. There are many highly deserving cars of such a distinguished pedigree that we could arguably include two or three (or four) specific iterations of the same make and model. But in the interest of including the widest range of cars, and not shamelessly plugging one specific fan-club, we’ve not ranked individual production years. Nor have we included highly successful successors to (all) of our picks, much for the same reason. If we did, let’s just say, every Ferrari between the 250 and the 599 would be on our list.
Finally, each car has two additional links, chocked full of all those numbers you all want, like engine size, horsepower, available performance figures, and enough high-res photos to wet your palates, and your dreams.
And so, without further adieu, we give you, the 50 best sports cars of all time!

BMW M3 Series AC Schnitzer
AC Schnitzler purifies the fastest 3-Series Coupe.
When string of beads of sweat form on the forehead of experienced sports car drivers, it's not inevitably down feather to a defective air conditioning system. With the 420 V8-HP of the BMW M3, the ACS3 Sport catapults even its keenest challengers into the rear view mirror. The sporting coupé is ideal for anyone seeking to gain advantage on twisting tracks. A normal M3 would be a tough competitor here, because in comparison with the "civilized" 3-series Coupé it has a totally different axle construction. With racing suspension developed on the legendary Nürburgring, AC Schnitzer has succeeded in refining the handling potential of the chassis even further. And fitted with the Short Shift from Aachen, the ACS3 Sport becomes the automotive hero of the day: No-one is changing gears faster!
Best of all: The vehicle loses nothing of its qualities as a daily driver. Instead, AC Schnitzer magic even more M-option into everyday life, for example, when the Aachen exhaust system plays its bewitching baritone in a road tunnel. The left/right system with two tailpipes per side, linked into a horizontal figure of eight, is, however, a visible work of art. In a play on the numerical symbol for "infinity", at the same time it symbolizes the leading reserves of the vehicle which reaches 100 km/h from a standing start in an effortless 4.8 seconds. No less carefully arranged are the aerodynamic attachments, which for AC Schnitzer are always more than mere visual decoration. At the rear, a diffuser of visible carbon presses the car down onto the tarmac as if there were magnets below the road surface. The front spoiler is also made from this high quality material, and is supported against the front skirt with alloy struts as in motor sport. Further down force is provided by a subtle rear roof spoiler and rear section who in addition give the body exciting new shapes. Side skirt extensions, in particular, when integrated with the white paint of the photo model, give the profile an aura of stature and dynamism. Finally, the AC Schnitzer racing rims Type to VI embody pure culture, on the ACS3 Sport in sizes 9.0J x 20" on the front and 10.5J x 20" on the rear. The combination of Y-spokes and discriminating five fork spokes superimposed in two planes, produces a design that is as exciting as it is elegant.
It further highlights to of course include the forged wheel Type V in 20". With its strikingly curved, interrupted spokes, it not only looks superb but thanks to the lightweight construction method, keeps the unstrung weight to a least. A no less attractive selection is the Type IV racing wheel in silver - and with the trendy black finish as "Magic Black”. And naturally AC Schnitzer continues the theme of sports performance in the driver's workplace, offering attractive and ergonomically perfect aluminium controls for the gearknob. Handbrake handles, pedals and I-Drive controller. A carbon interior trim and sports airbag steering wheel are also available on request.
